Biography of Adeleke Olorunnimbe Mamora

Adeleke Olorunnimbe Mamora (born 16 February 1953) is a Nigerian medical doctor and politician who has held several key positions in the country’s political landscape. He served as the Minister of Science and Technology from 2022 to 2023, and as the Minister of State for Health from 2019 to 2022.

Mamora has a long and distinguished career in both the legislative and executive branches of government. He served as Senator for the Lagos East Senatorial District from 2003 to 2011 and was Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2003. He is a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In the early 1990s, Mamora played an active role in Nigerian politics as a National Delegate for the National Republican Convention (NRC) in 1990 and later became the Secretary of the Lagos East Chapter of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) in 1998.

In 1999, Mamora was elected to the Lagos State House of Assembly and was appointed Speaker, a role he held until 2003. He also served as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers from 2000 to 2001. Mamora was later elected to the Senate in April 2003, and re-elected in 2007, where he held significant positions in key committees, including those focused on Upstream Petroleum Resources, Health, and Federal Character & Inter-Government Affairs.

From 2003 to 2006, Mamora was a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament. He also made notable contributions as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions. Throughout his Senate career, he sponsored various bills and motions, particularly on issues such as the Tenure of Office, the creation of a Surgeon-General of Nigeria, and reforms to the Tobacco Control Act.

Early Life and Education:
Mamora was born in Ile-Ife, Nigeria, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, as well as a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University). He worked as a medical director from 1987 to 1998 and served as a Company Medical Adviser from 1988 to 1992.

Mamora is recognized for his expertise in parliamentary procedures and his influence in Nigeria’s healthcare and legislative systems.
