Biography of Adesola Nunayon Amosu
Adesola Nunayon Amosu CFR DSSM DSS fwc psc (born 1 August 1958) is a retired air marshal of the Nigerian Air Force who held the position of the 19th Chief of the Air Staff of Nigeria.
Adesola Nunayon Amosu Early Life.
Amosu was born on 1 August 1958 in Badagry, Lagos State, Nigeria. He completed his primary education at Ladilak Primary School in Lagos State and proceeded to the Apostolic Grammar School, where he earned his West African Senior School Certificate.
Amosu joined the Nigerian Air Force via the Nigerian Defence Academy as part of the 25 Regular Course on 3 January 1979 and was commissioned as a Pilot Officer on 3 July 1981. He later attended the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji and the National War College, Nigeria. Additionally, he obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc) degree in strategic studies from the University of Ibadan.
Adesola Nunayon Amosu Air Force Career.
Amosu underwent pilot training at the 301 Flying Training School in Kaduna before continuing at the 303 Flying Training School in Kano. Following his training, he was assigned to the 99 Air Combat Training Group in Kainji for type-rating on the Alpha-Jet aircraft.
He rose to the rank of Air Vice-Marshal on 3 July 2010, receiving his decoration from Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the then-President of Nigeria.
Throughout his career, Amosu served in various capacities within the Nigerian Air Force. He was a Safety Officer at the 81 Air Maritime Group in Benin and later assumed the roles of Chief Operations Officer and Fleet Operations Officer at the 101 Presidential Air Fleet in Abuja. He also served as the Commanding Officer of the 101 Presidential Air Fleet.
Before his appointment as the Chief of Air Staff on 16 January 2014, he was the Director of Operations and the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command.
Amosu is a seasoned pilot with over 6,200 flying hours on multiple Nigerian Air Force aircraft, including the Alpha-Jet, Dornier 228, Gulfstream 5, Dornier 128-6, and Falcon 900.
Arrest by EFCC on Corruption Allegations
On 27 January 2016, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, apprehended and detained Amosu over allegations of misappropriating funds meant for arms procurement during his tenure as Chief of Air Staff. It was alleged that over $2.1 billion allocated for arms acquisition was diverted for personal use.
