ỌBA OF BENIN’S VISIT TO ỌỌ̀NI IN 1979

In 1979, shortly after his ascension to the throne, the newly installed Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, the Oba of Benin, paid a formal visit to the Ooni of Ife at his palace in Ilé-Ifè. The meeting between these two paramount traditional rulers of Nigeria was rich in cultural symbolism, underscoring the deep historical ties between the ancient Benin Kingdom and the cradle of the Yorùbá civilization. It was not just a courtesy call, but a gesture laden with ancestral reverence, diplomacy, and mutual recognition of royal heritage.
