THE BIRTH OF MY BABY Chapter 3

THE BIRTH OF MY BABY
Chapter 3

Benjamin was sleeping that early morning when he heard a loud bang on his door. While standing there, I was sure he was confused as to who the banger was and why the persons keeps banging the door heavily.

After a while, he opened the door and was surprised to see me together with my mother and my uncle. She was looking at him in a disgusting manner. I could see fear in his face.

He got out and went to wake up his parents to which we followed behind him into the parents house.

My mother after a little greeting, began to talk her mind in a loud manner but Benjamin’s parents were quiet and didn’t say a word to her because she gave no room for any talk from them.

We both couldn’t even utter a word. Should we have even said anything? The house was on fire because of the two of us. Benjamin’s parents were trying to discuss the matter in a peaceful way without alerting the neighbours that early morning and on top of that, both families were good friends before that day but my mother had lost it already.

We may want to see fault in what she was doing but in a way, she was on her right to do so. Everything was just annoying.

Finally, my uncle calmed her down and then a solution was finally planned out.

As time went by, Benjamin’s father gave his wife money to take me to the hospital to start my antenatal while Benjamin began to search for a job.

Everything was stressful as I had to also go for my NECO exams.

I was becoming fresher and had to always visit Benjamin at his work place after exams because I couldn’t bear to stay at home because of the constant nagging of the people in my house.

I felt free and at peace only when I’m with Benjamin or his parents because they made me know they were not happy with what we did and at the same time, they try to draw me closer and make me happy.

His father would say “What has happened, has happened”

He was a really good companion and it was because of him I didn’t kill myself.
