WHEN INTRODUCING CHICKS IN YOUR FARM OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING
WHEN INTRODUCING CHICKS IN YOUR FARM OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING:.
1. Prepare a proper vaccination programme and a list of routine to be followed in the farm.
2. Properly count the chicks, check for deformities and record the total number of chicks.
3. Ensure water mixed with multivitamins, glucose and liquid paraffin is placed in the brooder.
4. Heat source should have been placed 12 hours prior to the arrival of chicks.Make sure you have a brooder thermometer. The correct temperature during the first week should be 33°C
5. Let the chicks drink water that contain glucose for 30 minutes before introducing the feeds.Provide chickmash for layer chicks and broiler starter mash for meat birds.
6. Make sure the birds are feeding. You can confirm this by checking if their crops are full four hours after placing them in the brooder.
7. A mortality of 1% in the first two weeks is normal. If more than 3% in the first two weeks then there’s a problem.
8. Always remember that chicks in the brooder are made up of 20% strong individuals,20% weaker chicks and 60% average.Put more effort on the weakest chicks to make sure uniformity on growth is attained.
My wish is to see you attain utmost growth in your poultry project.
