The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, on Monday, celebrated Christmas with the frontline troops of Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI at Headquarters 27 Task Force Brigade, Buni-Gari, Yobe State.
This was revealed in a statement and photos from the event shared on the official X handle of the Nigerian Army on Tuesday.
The statement read, “The Christmas luncheon was organised to share a moment of joy with the frontline troops, in order to boost their morale and equally interact freely with them in the theatre of operations.
“The event was equally conceived to create an atmosphere where officers and soldiers would meet together outside the trenches due to the current operations to wine, dine and not to relent, but continuously build on the successes recorded so far.”
It added that while reading out his Christmas message to the troops, the COAS who was represented by the Commander Armoured Corps, Major General MS Ahmed, said: “Over fifty thousand of our colleagues will miss wishing their families and loved ones Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in person this season, not because they do not want to, but because they will be on duty across difficult-to-access towns, villages and hamlets across the country and beyond.”
Major General Ahmed was also said to have appreciated the sacrifices, efforts, and commitment of troops in the fight against insurgency, adding that Army Headquarters has initiated welfare projects that will directly impact the lives of soldiers and their families.
