Colonel Christopher Joseph Ibikunle Falayi, born on May 5, 1940 in Akure, Ondo, is a distinguished retired Nigerian Army officer, educationist, administrator, and statesman whose life reflects unwavering dedication to service, discipline, and national development.

He began his military career in 1973 when he joined the Nigerian Army Education Corps as a graduate of the University of Ibadan, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.

In 1974, he was posted to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) as a Military Instructor, teaching Military History and African History. He served at NDA for four years, contributing significantly to the intellectual and professional development of officer cadets.

In 1978, Falayi was posted to Calabar as the Brigade Education Officer, where he headed all military schools in what was then Cross River State. During his tenure, he demonstrated exceptional leadership and vision by pioneering the establishment of three Command Children Schools and two Command Secondary Schools, significantly expanding access to quality education for military families in the region.

In 1981, he was posted to Lagos, where he pioneered the establishment of the present Command Day Secondary School, Ikeja Cantonment, serving as its Pioneer Commandant and laying a strong foundation of discipline and academic excellence.

In 1982, Colonel Falayi proceeded to the United States of America on a military-sponsored programme. At the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he earned two Master’s degrees:
(Master’s in Educational Administration, and
Master’s in Educational Research Methodology).

He returned to Nigeria at the end of 1985 and subsequently served in several key military formations, including TRADOC Minna, the Directorate of Army Recruitment Lagos, and the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre Oshodi, where he served with professionalism until 1989.

In 1990, he was posted to Command Secondary School, Kaduna as the Commandant, where he became popularly known as CJI (Big C), and was respected for his high standards of discipline and commitment to academic excellence.

Towards the end of 1993, Colonel Falayi was posted to the Nigerian Military School, Zaria, as the Senior Education Officer, second only to the Commandant. He served in this capacity until the end of 1994.

He retired from active service as a Colonel in 1994.

In 1995, he was appointed by the then Military Administrator of Ondo State as the Chairman, Ondo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM). In this role, he oversaw the recruitment, welfare, promotion, discipline, and retirement of all post-primary school teachers in the state. He served meritoriously until 2000, leaving behind a legacy of structure, accountability, and professionalism.

Falayi later ventured into active politics and, in 2004, was appointed by the Governor of Ondo State as a Member of the Governing Council of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, where he served until 2009.
Since then, he has remained an elder statesman, a respected leader within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, and a mentor to many.

In his present years, he has devoted time to family, travelling to visit his children across the world, having served with distinction both in military service and public administration.

He is also a distinguished member of the Knights of St. Mulumba (KSM), reflecting his deep faith, moral uprightness, and commitment to service to God and humanity.
