? Louis-Jacques Daguerre, was a French artist and photographer, recognized primarily for his significant contributions to the field of photography.

Louis was born on 18th November 1787, in Cormeilles-en-Parisis, Val-d’Oise.

He is most famously known for developing the daguerreotype process of photography, which became the first commercially successful photographic process in the mid-19th century.

? Daguerre ultimately developed a process that involved exposing a silver-plated sheet of copper, treated with iodine vapor, to create a light-sensitive surface.

The resulting image, known as a daguerreotype, was made visible by exposing it to mercury vapor, and then set by dipping in a salt solution.

? This image of the Boulevard du Temple in Paris, was taken on 9th January 1839, by Louis Daguerre.

If you look closely on the bottom left, you can see a man polishing the boot of another individual.

Exposure times were lengthy at the time this image was taken, and people who moved fast could not be captured using photography.

? Only the person getting their boots polished and the polisher, stayed still long enough to be seen in the photo.
This picture is often credited as being the first photograph to show a living person.

? Daguerre’s images were enthusiastically praised as nearly miraculous, and news of the daguerreotype quickly spread.

In 1839, he was elected to the National Academy of Design as an Honorary Academician.

? Daguerre died from a heart attack, on 10th July 1851, aged 63.
Daguerre’s name is one of the 72 names inscribed on the Eiffel tower.
