Birth of Princess Louisa of Great Britain

Princess Louisa was born at Leicester House, Westminster on 19th March 1749.

She was daughter of Frederick – Prince of Wales, and Augusta of Saxe-Gotha.
Louisa’s grandparents were King George II and Caroline of Ansbach.

Louisa was part of a large family, counting future kings and queens amongst her siblings – including King George III.

Louisa was a bright and cheerful child yet, around the time of her sister Elizabeth’s death, her health began to fail.

Louisa grew weak and frail, and was frequently confined to her bed, unable to fully participate in court life.
As she got older, Louisa never appeared more than an unhealthy child of thirteen or fourteen.

Because of her health, plans to secure Louisa an advantageous marriage, were always declined.

By the time her sister Caroline Matilda left Great Britain to be Queen of Denmark in 1766, Louisa was succumbing to a more and more deteriorating state of health.

This was due to an advancing illness, thought to be tuberculosis.
This, eventually turned her into an invalid.

The young princess Louisa of Great Britain, passed away at Carlton House aged just 19, on 13th May 1768.
She was buried on 21st May 1768, at Westminster Abbey.

Louisa was the fourth among her siblings to meet an early death.
