The indigenes of this town are solely responsible for the construction and maintenance of various infrastructures such as roads, hospitals, schools, and banks, which contribute to the town’s remarkable progress and growth.

Brief History of Osumenyi Town

Situated about 30 kilometers from Awka, the capital of Anambra State, and approximately 15 kilometers from Nnewi Town, Osumenyi is a prosperous and vibrant town. It shares its borders with Ekwulumiri, Unubi, and Ogbedi to the east, Akwalhedi and Ezinifite to the south, while Ebenato and Utuh are located to the west. Amichi lies to the north of Osumenyi.

The people of Osumenyi are known for their peaceful and kind nature, living in harmony with their neighbors. However, they are steadfast in defending their territory against any form of invasion or aggression. The town has given birth to numerous villages, each contributing to the cultural richness of Osumenyi.

These villages include Akabo, Obiuno, Ebenator, Umuka, Oiikpi, Okohia, Umuomam, Ocho, Enubio, Amihie, Amakom, Ojieku, Umeugo, and Obiohia. These villages make up two council wards, Ward I and Ward II, in Osumenyi.

In terms of geographical spread, Osumenyi extends from Eke Osu market, neighboring Unubi and Ogbedi, to a vast area specially designated for farming and hunting. The market day in Osumenyi is called Eke, and the most popular market is EKE OSU, which stands out as the largest market in Nnewi South Local Government Area, attracting traders from neighboring states such as Imo, Abia, Enugu, Delta, and Edo.

Osumenyi is blessed with five springs, namely Ochi, Ngwuja, Nwota, Ahamamiori, and Igiwoku, which flow into Ugwu stream and connect to the Ulasi river.

This picturesque town is adorned with lush green trees that provide shade and respite from the scorching sun. Notable tree species in Osumenyi include palm oil trees, rubber trees, iroko trees, and various fruit-yielding trees.
