Growing Carrots in Containers
Growing carrots in containers at home is easy and rewarding. Follow these steps for success:
Container Selection: Use a 12-inch deep, 18–30 inch wide container with drainage holes, preferably rectangular or square.
Soil Preparation: Loosen the soil, mix potting soil, vermiculite, and compost equally.
Sowing Seeds: Evenly sprinkle seeds with 5 cm spacing, cover lightly with soil.
Caring for Seedlings:
Thin seedlings to 7–10 cm apart at 5 cm height.
Water regularly to keep soil moist.
Fertilize every 3–4 weeks.
Challenges:
Protect from pests with row covers or natural methods.
Ensure good air circulation and proper watering to avoid diseases.
Harvesting: Ready in 60–80 days; look for mature carrots with a 1/2 to 3/4 inch diameter and gently pull from the soil.
