HISTORY OF IPOKIA-YEWA, OGUN STATE.

Ipokia is one of the major towns in Ogun State. It is the cultural and traditions of the Anagos which is the most popular dialect and the Egus.
Ipokia is a very prominent kingdom in old Oyo Kingdom. During the period of internecine wars that affected most towns in Yorubaland, Ipokia remained an unconquered territory.

Ipokia was founded around 13th century when some princes and princess of Oranmiyan, the 6th Ooni of Ife and founder of old Oyo and Benin Kingdom migrated from Oyo-Ile and settled in Ajase Ipo now in Kwara State following a minor friction among the princes and princess, they moved southwest with the ancient traditional crown given to them by Oduduwa, their forefather.

The journey took them to Agbadarigi, now Badagry axis where they moved further to form a town, with kn theow guidance of Ifa, a town known as Ipokia( Opo ko ara re sile, Opo rejected his own) .

Ipokia is a major exit route through road and water. It can be described as a gateway town as a result of its closeness to Nigeria and Republic of Benin.

Ipokia is the administrative headquarter of Ipokia local government.It is one of the ancient towns in Ogun State. HRM Oba(Dr) Olusola Adeniyi Olaniyan, a first class traditional ruler is the 46th Onipokia of Ipokia kingdom.He ascended the throne of his forefathers after the death of Oba Raufu Adeole, the 45th Onipokia of Ipokia Kingdom.

Opo day is celebrated annually in honour of their ancestral link with the people of Ajase-Ipo.
The people are known and called, Ipokia.. omo Onipokimekun
