MASS METERING PROJECT: FG DISCOVERS UNUSED FUND, CHANNELS TO METERING OF MILITARY FORMATIONS

Contrary to reports that due process was not followed in the mass metering project of Military formations across the country, Federal Government says the intervention of President Bola Tinubu should be commended for recovering fund meant for mass metering project which was abandoned for twenty years.

A statement from the office of the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu states that the present administration discovers fund that was released to a company in 2003 for the supply of three million meters, yet the project did not take off.

Worried by electricity debt incurred by the Nigerian Army and the need for Federal government to intervene, President Tinubu directed the Ministry of power to look into the army’s request and utilise metering funds with a private company

With more than eight million meter gap in the country and the liquidity crisis in the sector, the minister of power wonders how money meant for a national project could be held up untouched for more than twenty years by an individual.

Following intervention of president Tinubu, the fund is being refunded with accrued interest to a new company that has commenced implementation of metering project in military formations nationwide.

Minister of power says his effort to recover the revolving meter fund which had been untouchable for more than twenty years should be commended as he advises stakeholders to seek clarifications on issues before misleading members of the public.
