NNPC Floating Fuel Stations – Nigeria
The image displays a floating fuel station operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), designed to improve fuel accessibility in Nigeria’s riverine communities, especially in the Niger Delta region.
Design and Construction:
Constructed by Julius Berger Nigeria, a leading engineering and construction firm.
Six units were built in 2007, each costing approximately ₦700 million.
Each station is designed to hold up to 300,000 liters of petrol and diesel.
The stations are engineered to refuel vessels including boats, yachts, and jet skis, as well as land vehicles docked nearby.
Purpose and Impact:
Developed to address fuel scarcity in areas difficult to reach via roads.
The floating stations provide a reliable and sustainable fuel supply to remote communities.
They have been strategically deployed in Rivers, Delta, and Ondo States, improving local economies and transportation efficiency.
Significance:
These floating fuel stations represent innovative infrastructure tailored to Nigeria’s unique geographic challenges, ensuring that petroleum products are accessible even in water-bound communities.
