Picture this: you’re on a call with someone who speaks a different language, and wouldn’t it be fantastic if you could understand each other effortlessly? Samsung’s latest Galaxy S24 devices have made this a reality with their innovative Live Translate feature. Interestingly, this is a capability that Google should consider adding to its Pixel phones.
Live Translate, featured on the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra, facilitates real-time translation of phone calls using on-device Galaxy AI. Supporting 13 languages across 17 regions, it covers both voice and text translations. Users can even mute their own voice or the other person’s, letting the translation bridge the language gap seamlessly.
In contrast, Google Pixel phones lack a comparable feature. While they offer a version of Live Translate that transcribes speech to text in real-time, it only works with one language at a time. Google Translate can assist with text messages, but voice calls and voice muting options are absent. This feature is particularly beneficial for travelers, business professionals, or anyone communicating across diverse cultures. Live Translate, integrated into the native Galaxy phone app, eliminates the need for third-party apps, addressing privacy and security concerns.
Live Translate stands out as one of the reasons why the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra claim the title of the best Android phones of 2024. Google could enhance its Pixel phones by adopting a similar feature, possibly in a future Pixel Feature Drop or in the upcoming Pixel 9 series later this year. The convenience and practicality of Live Translate are undoubtedly a game-changer in the realm of smartphone communication.
