Chapter 7

“What is happening Sir?”
I asked without fidgeting

“I know you know why I wanted to see you. You don’t have to pretend” he said

I looked at him and then pushed him a little because he was too close to me for my liking.

“Sir (I placed the tip of my finger on my tongue and raised it above my head) I swear to the gods of our land that I don’t know why you wanted to see me”

“He smiled and then he wanted using the back of his palm to touch my cheek but then I withdrew farther away from him.

“Sir, please I have to go now. They are waiting for me”

“So, they are more important to you than me?”

“Aah! Sir! No na why will they be more important? In fact you are more important to me than my mother and then I began to laugh. I noticed he had lost hos guard and so I hurriedly opened the door and left the office.

Everything my dad taught me regarding men, little by little I was beginning to witness it and all his advises (though some sound childish) but they were working.

I quickly went back to the hostel and met my stubborn roommates trying different kinds of dresses. I greeted them and then went straight ti my bed. I tried not to think about what happened in Mr. Richard’s office but I could keep myself away from that thought.

“Hey girl, do you want some?” One of the girls asked

“Where did you get them from if I may ask?”

“It was given to us as a gift?”

“From who?”

“Our guys of cos. We just came back from the biggest boutique in town and it was a nice cruise”

“Sorry what’s your name again?”

“I’m Gina and you?”

“I’m Sarah and here is Philomena”

“It’s funny how we’ve been roommates for some days now and we are just getting to know each other’s name”

They both laughed and then Jessica came in with a nylon back.

“Na wa for you guys o. Do you know I could actually hear your voices from across the twin theater” she said sarcastically and then we all began to laugh.

“What did you bring for us?” I asked

“Human meat” she replied

She opened the leather and I was shocked to see a lot of meat in it.

“How much is this Suya?” Sarah asked

“I’ve told you that it is human meat”

“Stop joking na” I said

“I’m not joking. Haven’t you heard that human meat is more healthy for our body?”

“Just listen to yourself. So since it is good for our body, should we start killing each other so that we can look good?” I quarrelled

“Well, I prefer human meat and you all are welcome to join me”

It was becoming irritating and then the three of us backed away.

“You guys should come and eat, I was only joking”

“Are you sure?”

“Very sure!”

And so we all went and began eating the meat and for sure it was pure suya.

My phone suddenly began to ring and then I checked it, it was that same number. I ignored it but then the call kept coming and so I decided to pick and then for a very long time, the person finally spoke.
