Somali army kills seven al-Shabab leaders in Middle Shabelle region
Somali army forces, supported by international partners, have killed seven al-Shabab leaders and other militants during a military operation in the Middle Shabelle region, Hiiraan reports.
Somali National Television reported on Wednesday that among the militants killed in the operation were the group’s leader in the Ugunji area, Osama, Adnan, who was also responsible for registering people wanted for extortion, and Yaxye, who served as the deputy leader of the militia in the Ugunji area.
The operation was conducted in the village of Ugunji, near the town of Janale in the Middle Shabelle region.
This attack follows days after at least five people, including four Emirati troops and a Bahraini military officer, were killed in an al-Shabab attack targeting troops at the General Gordon military base in Mogadishu.
