The Legendary Igbo

Igbo is the Father of all Ibos. It is Igbo that begat all the Ibo’ tribes, starting from Benin to the Cross – Rivers and from the Lower Benue right into the Atlantic.

Igbo existed since the beginning of time. The true meaning of Igbo is the Ancient people.

In the 15th century the Portuguese wrote of the tribe as the Hackbous blacks, & Heebos. Olaudah Equiano a freed Ibo slave wrote it as Eboe in the 18th Century.

At various times in history, it is believed that a Jewish groups marched down from Israel to join with the autochthonous Igbo group. It happened in days of yore,the dark ,most remote era of Igbo history.

Till date you have various towns named after the founder of the Ibo’ nation across various states of Nigeria.

Edo State
Igbo Ntor -( which is a part of Igbanke.) meaning Igbo who capture/ seize. Ikaland

Delta state
Igbo – uzor, – meaning Igbo on Transit. Oshimili land

Akwukwu Igbo – meaning the Palm Plantations of Igbo. Aniochaland

Anambra State
Igbo – ukwu – meaning Great Igbo Aguataland

Imo State
Ama – Igbo – meaning Dynasty of Igbo. Isuland

Rivers state
(R)Umu- Igbo – meaning the Quarters of children of Igbo Ikwerreland
