The World Igbo Cultural Heritage has traced the origin of Ndígbo to Ugwuele Uturu.

Their research indicates that the majority of Ndígbo originated from a place called “Aki” in Ugwuele Uturu. As representatives of Igbo cultural heritage both at home and abroad stormed the site last month and located where ọfọ Igbo was situated, they are planning a revisit to the community next month to inform them of their findings and to perform some rituals before excavating the said location to retrieve Ọfọ Igbo and erect a monument at Aki in Ugwuele Uturu, thereby putting an end to the controversy surrounding the origin of Ndígbo.

It’s worth noting that Catherine Acholonu, in his book ‘They Lived Before Adam,’ mentioned Ugwuele Uturu as a place where humans existed before the Biblical Adam. Additionally, prominent archaeologists and scholars such as Thurstan Shaw, Steve Daniels, F.N. Anozie, D.D Hartle, and Michael A Uchegbu have linked Igbo history and culture to the Ugwuele-Uturu area. Archaeological evidence suggests that Ugwuele had inhabitants as early as 11,000 BC, as artifacts dating back to more than 250,000 years ago have been found in the area.

This archaeological evidence supports the idea that Ugwuele was inhabited before other parts of Igbo land, possibly serving as the ancestral home from which migrations occurred to other areas. With Ndígbo now recognising that 80% of them originated from Ugwuele Nna mba ọpa Nkwụ, in Uturu,it is hoped that this will put an end to other false claims regarding the origin of Ndígbo.
