Video emerges of Ukrainian presence in Sudan war

Footage of Ukrainian special forces operating in Sudan has surfaced following months of speculation that Kyiv had sent troops to the country to fight Russia’s Wagner military group, The Guardian reported on Tuesday.

The Russian private military company is fighting in Sudan to support the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in its battle against the government.

A clip released by the Kyiv Post on Monday, which reportedly came from sources within Ukrainian military intelligence, confirms the presence of Ukrainian fighters in Sudan.

The video shows the interrogation of a Russian prisoner of war and two African fighters by Ukrainian operatives.

The Russian confirms his status as a Wagner mercenary, and says he entered Sudan from the neighboring Central African Republic — a Wagner stronghold — to wage war against the Sudanese government with 100 other mercenaries.

It follows months of speculation that Ukraine had sent forces to combat the Wagner presence in Sudan as part of a global campaign to weaken Russian interests.

Last year, video clips and photographs showed Ukrainian-style suicide drone attacks on RSF forces in Sudan, as well as a sniper carrying equipment linked to Ukraine, spurring rumors on social media.

In September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met Sudan’s de facto ruler Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan in Ireland.
