CHAPTER 12
(THE PRETENCE)

“If I must ask, what kind of business do you all do?” The lecturer asked

“For our own safety, we can’t say it out Sir. All we want is our money and we shall never appear here ever again”

“How much is your money?”

“500k Sir”

I opened my mouth wide and the lecturer looked at me for a while. I knelt down and began to cry while telling the lecturer repetitively that I wasn’t the one they were meeting.

“If it wasn’t you, then who were they meeting all this while?”

There was only one person and that person is

“Suzan Sir”

“Who is Suzan?”

“My roommate Sir. She was the one that took to a mall where she bought the same kind of clothes for us and then I had to customize my name on my own just to differentiate mine from hers”

“So you mean she wears your own dress to go do business with these guys?”

“Yes Sir”

“Where is she now?”

“I don’t know Sir. I haven’t seen her since morning Sir”

“Guys, please can you come see me tomorrow morning. Let me talk to the both of them first”

“We don’t have problem with that. All we want is our money” and then they left the office

“Go and come back with your friend in the next one hour”

“Ok Sir!”

I left the office and then I began looking for Suzan but couldn’t see her. I searched everywhere but she was no where to be found.

I checked my time and the time was far gone already. While I was walking slowly, frustrated and teary, I bumped into Kate and immediately, just like always, she knew I was not feeling well.

“What is wrong with you again?”

I was about to talk but then I just began to shed tears. Kate hugged me and then she calmed me down for a while.

“Let’s go over there and sit down”

We went and sat down and then I explained everything to her. Thank God I told her what I saw the other night.

Suzan was called and told what had happened in the hostel while she was away. She hurriedly left the hostel.

“Precious, I don’t want to start scolding you for not heeding to my advice because right now what we need is a solution”

“You are right but I can’t even find her in school. I’ve checked everywhere”

“You know I can be your witness because I know believe what you told me the other day about what you saw. So what we are to do now is for us to go back to the lecturer office and then I will be your witness to him”

“Do you think that will work?”

“I don’t know but we have to try something”

And so we left. We entered the office, he looked at us

“Is that the Suzan?” He asked

“No Sir. She is a friend that knows about the situation”

“Ok, so where is Suzan?”

“Sir, I can’t find her. I’ve searched everywhere in the school but it’s as if she is not even in school”

“Are you sure you are telling the truth?”

“Yes Sir, you can ask my friend here”

“What is your name?” He asked Kate

“I’m Kate Sir”

“What do you know about this issue?”

Kate was about to start explaining and then a knock was heard on the door.

Kate opened the door and then BOOM!!! I saw a familiar face.
