WHAT WAS THE ORIGINAL NAME OF THE TRIBE, JUKUN?
According to Palmer and Clifford in 1936, the people called Jukun were originally called Ahel Dirk. And who are Ahel Dirk?
The Ahel Dirk tribe is a sub-clan of the larger Madh’hij tribe, which is a prominent tribe in Yemen and the Arabian Peninsula. The Madh’hij tribe is known for its rich history and cultural heritage, and has played a significant role in the region’s politics and society for centuries.
The Ahel Dirk tribe is specifically located in the eastern part of Yemen, in the governorates of Marib and Shabwah. They are known for their skills in agriculture, animal husbandry, and trade, and have a strong tradition of hospitality and generosity.
The name Ahel Dirk means “people of the Dirk” or people of the valley in Arabic language. But again, even Jukun as a Jukun word also means “People”. And you know what? They have been warriors and are still warriors!!!
