Zainab Bukky Ajayi (2 February 1934 – 6 July 2016) was a celebrated Nigerian actress.
Life and Career
Born and raised in Nigeria, Bukky Ajayi completed her higher education in England, supported by a federal government scholarship. In 1965, she returned to Nigeria and began her career as a presenter and newscaster for the Nigerian Television Authority in 1966. Ajayi made her film debut in the television series Village Headmaster during the ’70s and later starred in Checkmate, a popular Nigerian television series that aired in the early 1990s.
Throughout her illustrious career, she appeared in numerous films and television series, including Critical Assignment, Diamond Ring, and Witches. In 2016, her significant contributions to the Nigerian film industry were recognized when she and Sadiq Daba received the Industry Merit Award at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
