Georgios Tompras (1878 – April 20, 1963)

From the Greek town of Kydonies or also known as Aivali, in Ionia in Asia Minor, he was a Macedonian Fighter and Greek Soldier.

A pharmacist by trade, in 1897 he joined the Greek Army, where within a few years, he reached the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.

In 1905, he travelled to Macedonia to take part in the Macedonian Struggle (1904-08), which had broken out the previous year. Using the nom de guerre of “Roupakias”, he fought under the command of the Cretan Georgios Katechakis.

He was involved in the fighting in and around the western part of Macedonia. Between Kastoria and Giannitsa.

Trompas continued fighting throughout Macedonia and Epirus, during the Balkan Wars (1912-13).

Following the Asia Minor Catastrophe and the loss of his home, Tompras by now a Major-General, lived out the rest of his days in Chalandri, in the northern suburbs of Athens.
