Stergios Daoutis (1887 – April 21, 1973)

From the village of Ano Seli, midway between Veria and Ptolemaida in Macedonia, he was a Greek warrior, who in the early years of the 20th century, fought in the Macedonian Struggle, the Balkan Wars and in the Liberation movement for Northern Epirus.

Under the nom de guerre “Kapetan Perifanos” In 1907, he organised his own group of fighters to go and fight the Bulgarian komitatzides, around the area of Lake Giannitsa, fighting close together with the fighting force of Georgios Giotas.

During the Balkan Wars, he took part in numerous battles all over Macedonia and Epirus, such as in and around Thessaloniki, in the villages close to his home and also in the famous battle of Kilkis-Lachanas in 1913.

In 1914, Daoutis co-operated with another former Macedonian Fighter Georgios Tsontos, fighting this time in occupied Northern Epirus, freeing the Greeks of the region from foreign occupation and rule, where it was officially granted Autonomy.

In his later years he married and settled in Evia, where he lived out the rest of his days.
