UNIVERSITY OF AFRICA, BAYELSA STATE, INAUGURATES TASKFORCE TO CHECK INDECENT DRESSING.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Africa, Professor Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, yesterday, 19th February, 2023 flagged off the activities of the Dress Code Committee of the University of Africa, Toru-orua, Bayelsa State.

The AVC charged members of the taskforce to ensure not only that students are properly dressed, but also that students do not sit on the desks, and dispose off dirt properly. He further reposed confidence in the ability of the committee to deliver the task assigned.

The taskforce is to specifically make certain that; display of cleavages, bump shorts, sagging of trousers, nose rings, multiple ear rings, revealing fabrics, clingy cloths, tattoos, outrageous hairstyles and colours are all eradicated from the University Community.

He further informed that there would be a more formal launce of the taskforce with representatives drawn from the Student Union Government and the Hostels to show the seriousness of the drive of the University to ensure that her students are well groomed not just in learning but also in character.

Speaking at the inauguration, Professor Demola jolayomi, commended the Acting Vice-Chancellor for the initiative while also admonishing members of the committee to ensure that they don’t let their activities get down to the level of brawling.

Giving the vote of thanks, the Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Dunu Benson appreciated the AVC for adopting the initiative as it would ease the work load on the Student Affairs Division.

The Committee chaired by Dr. Thompson Ewata has membership drawn from the four faculties of the University, the Students Affairs Unit and the University Library.

Members of the Committee led by the Chair Dr. Thompson Ewata, immediately hit the ground running as they went into different class rooms to inform the students that it would no longer be business as usual as regards improper dressing. He informed the students of the do’s and don’ts of their dressing going forward.
